A Travellers Log
Well I finally made it here to Perth to join Cati for another Christmas and New Year in Australia. The journey here was eventful but mostly in a good way. On the bus to the airport I saw the remnants of a big pile up on the motorway which wasn’t good; 3 fatalities apparently. Aside from that the journey to the airport was quite boring.
Once at Heathrow though it was the usual queues at the check-in and then aside from that it was straight to the plain, got a lovely bacon baguette at Chez Gerard (so good I took a picture of it) for a reasonable price and then got to the plane. Our plane was due to go via Frankfurt due to the fire at the oil depot that happened recently. Our luck was in though and they fueled it up full instead so we could go direct to Singapore (yey! ahem). Unfortunately my seats there were in the middle of a 4 seat, the couple to my right were lovely and we had the odd natter on the way; the Asian guy to my left was another matter. During the flight he kept nicking my leg space and things which was quite annoying; could have been worse mind.
Think Of The Legs
I did try to get those seats right at the front or near emergency exits as they have leg room but more importantly are easier to get out of. You see I found out the last time I flew here that I don’t sleep to well on planes. I mostly get an hour or so (3hrs this time roughly) and then do “laps” of the plane. So if I have anyone beside me I have to pass them and I do feel mildly guilty if I interrupt their sleep. However I could only get this seat for the flight to Singapore.
I did get an aisle seat for the flight from Singapore to Perth though. I only watched the one movie on the way over. That was Transporter 2, which wasn’t fantastic, and I would say the original is better! Touched down in Singapore at 3pm local time (so roughly 7am GMT) and had to kill 4 hours till my plane for Perth took off. I found a wireless access point which was free to use so checked mail and what have you. As for food I picked up a McDonalds and that filled me up till the flight.
I Made It!
So finally it was the flight to Perth and this was mostly uneventful except the bit where a hostess lightly knocked my knee with the refreshments cart. She was most apologetic and at the end of the flight she gave me a wee goodie bag. Not sure where the stuff came from but it wholly unnecessary as it didn’t hurt but it was a nice thought.. lovely people on Singapore Airlines I tell ya! Anyway got into Perth at about 12:30am (4:30pm GMT, if you’ve guess you’ll notice it’s an 8hr difference ;-)) and got in touch with Cati so I could get a lift to where we’re staying. Got in, went to bed, woke up this morning in beautifully sunny Perth.
Was a nice journey overall, relaxing, mostly uneventful and now I’m here for a couple of weeks. Don’t forget to check out the gallery. It’ll fill up with pics I take whilst I’m here and on the way back as well. Anywho, take it easy and have a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
