Well That’s All Sorted Then
So another week has gone by and the concerns and worries I’ve had have all but gone away. At the start of the week it had been decided and sorted that Cat and I won’t be going to Iceland. A big shame as I had been looking forward to it but financially it made sense, we just couldn’t afford it. Cat sorted out the details with the travel company and all we lose is our deposit which was expected. So, instead of Iceland, we’re going to be visit friends of ours Seattle way and also visit Vancouver.
The other concern was my work situation. Since I handed in my notice in December my current employers have been looking and interviewing my replacement. My notice was actually up at the start of this month however I agreed with them to stay on until they found a replacement or I found a job. When I announced last Wednesday that I had a interview the following day (though this got moved to Friday) the offered someone my job; this had me worried. Although our agreement also stemmed to staying on to train whoever replaced me I knew at that point my time was somewhat limited. However, fortune smiled on me and I got offered the job at the place I went for my interview last week. It’s well paid and although similar in many aspects to what I do, the experience it will give me as well as its benefits are tempting. The main thing is that in a little under 5 days my worries have been sorted. What surprised me the most was the amount of offers and calls I received. You see I hadn’t actually applied for that many jobs up until Monday of last week. It was that night that Cat did me a fantastic favour and, while I was at football, scoured Thisisbristol and Reed websites to show me possible jobs when I got back. We then went through them all and applied for about 30 jobs in varying areas. The next day at work my phone was pretty much ringing all day and that is no exaggeration. Those that interested me I asked to be put forward and some others I said I was not interested in. This continued and really filled me with confidence in myself.
Friday, as well as my interview, saw my replacement start. I spent the afternoon filling him in on certain aspects of the job and started the process of training him up. He seems a nice lad who’ll fit in quite well and I’m sure will do fantastically well in the job. I’ll now have get him up to speed so that when I leave he can hit the ground at a quick walking place, possibly jogging or even running. This weekend has been spent mostly indoors due to the whether though a friend and I went to see Alien versus Predator: Requiem yesterday. A fun movie and far more enjoyable than the original and expect a review of it to appear at some point. Cat has been in Cambridge at a party and will be home later this evening. January it seems has been quite an interesting and productive month and a very good start to 2008. If things keep going in this vain who knows what might happen, it certainly does fill me with excitement thinking about the months to come.
