Gorram iWeb
So last night I decided that I’d finally get round to something Cati has been bugging me to do for ages which is update a few bits on our Holiday website specifically a few broken links. Anyway, most of the main site is based on my main iMac upstairs with the blogs from Canada and Yorkshire on my MacBook. Anyway, I opened up iWeb on my iMac to be presented with a fresh clean slate, no sites at all! What compounded this is that iWeb can’t import web pages (html) and that it’s done from a special file which keeps all the info. To me this seems a little silly I’m really not sure why Apple couldn’t include this rather useful feature is beyond me.
Now I haven’t trawled through my TimeMachine backups yet as I’m two minds. I could restore it and finish off what I need to or I can re-do the holiday site and perhaps place it as the main site on fluffles.com. I mean I bought that domain nearly 9 years ago now, not long after I got together with Cat. It was to be a place both her and I could blog and do fun stuff and like with many ideas I have it didn’t get very far. However because it was used as my main e-mail account and Cat still uses it to post pictures it has remained but without a front facing page. Perhaps our holidays together and that fact that so far we’ve chronicled each one since we went to Austria, this should take pride of place. Fluffles is a fun domain name to have to those who know what it means. It’s unique and memorable and should be used. I setup pntaylor.net to setup my photographic portfolio and then I moved my blog from fluffles to here because it made sense (although my blog still exists at Fluffles). There was a time whenI wondered whether I should actually keep it when I was moving hosts from IMHosted to Media Temple.
However I don’t want to see that domain die it’s too important and it has some good memories attached to it. For a while it was a busy forum where friends would post topics and it would be fun, that then fell into dis-use. The blog that was on the front page was hardly posted to which isn’t suprising considering my blogging history and other areas were just not developed. The major things Fluffles did was that for a time is hosted and looked after Boinng a site which I have been involved in some capacity for quite a while now. So with all that it would seem a shame to just let it linger and limp through the Internet. I’ll discuss this all with Cati as Fluffles has always been a joint venture, something we did together. If I was to re-do the whole things it’s going to take quite a while to do it. If I resurrect the iWeb site then it’ll be a little quicker. Either way I’ll have work to do and will most certainly keep me out of trouble for a while!
