Consolidation Is What We’re After
Well I’ve only gone and done it again and completely changed how this site looks but that’s not really the reason I’m posting however I figured if I pointed out right from the get-go then it’s done and dusted.
Anyway the reason for posting is really to just pat myself on the back that, after mulling it over for far too long (a couple of years), I finally went and bought a [abbr title=”Network Attached Storage”]NAS[/abbr]. The one I went for was on by Buffalo who has given it the rather swanky name of Linkstation Live. I’d shopped around online looking at many vendors and, after weighing up the good and the bad reviews, went with the Buffalo for a couple of reasons.
The biggest was the amount of storage as for £80 I’ve ended up with 1[abbr title=”Terrabyte”]TB[/abbr] of space which is plenty enough for the both of us. It will allow me to back up documents, music and movies I’ve had sitting on my MacBook that has been taking up far too much space as for the last few months I’ve been picky about deleting things. I found myself looking at a file thinking ‘well I don’t really need it but you never know!’ and then not deleting it. Most of last night and this evening I’ve been ruthless as now I’m able to just move what I’m unsure about to the NAS and then just delete it permanently from my [abbr title=”Hard-Disk Drive”]HDD[/abbr]. Secondly it comes with an built-in BitTorrent client so I can pickup updates and downloads without needing to leave my laptop on.
All-in-all it’s going to be very useful as I’ll be able to access the data stored on it from any machine, drop stuff on to it from my iPhone as well as allowing friends to drop files on to it via a Dropbox folder I’ve created. I’m really happy I bought and to be honest wished I’d done so sooner but then sometimes you keeping thinking to yourself you’ll do it tomorrow and then, if you’re like me, keep putting it off as you’ve got far more important stuff going on. Still is done now and I can start to utilise all the neat features this particular NAS has to offer!
