Finding The Right Balance
The thing about life for Cat and I at the moment is striking the right balance between work, fun and spending time together. Sometimes when you look at the amount of hours in a week you think ‘no problem, plenty of free time to spend together’ but then when you properly take a look that amount dwindles.
Work takes away the day time hours Mon-Fri and we both have evening activities like football, dancing etc. At the same time we’re both now trying to fit in visits to friends, family and anyone else we feel we should visit before we emigrate to Australia. This pretty much takes out most weekends between now and when we fly out there in February and as such doesn’t leave as much time as you think to spend together. You’ve also got to think about getting time on your own too as, while I love spending time with Cat, there are things I like to do that she doesn’t and vice-versa.
So the question is will this all work out once we’re in Australia. At times I tell myself that it will as, quite likely, we’ll spend a lot of time together for the first few weeks as we sort accommodation, jobs, transport and they myriad of other things we’ll have to arrange. But then part of me knows that the reality will be that we’ll still be very busy doing stuff than just spending time as a couple. I know we’ve got Valentines in Sydney together which I’m really looking forward to and we will have more free time whilst we look for work but I know that once we have jobs we’ll have to look to strike that balance again.
I’m hopeful that given the fresh start we can make sure we make time available for us to do things together alone but also, and this will be important at the start, to go out and socialise as a couple. This strangely is something we rarely do; I’m not too sure why but we don’t often go out to things together all that often. So I think that’ll also be at the forefront of my mind too. I guess the best thing is that we’re both aware of the current situation and both want to sort it out and I think as long as that’s the case we’ll get there in the end.
