Time To Accept Defeat?

Going back to Stamford Bridge
So with one weekend left of Premiership football the battle for the title will go down to the final day. Next Sunday Chelsea will face Wigan at home and Man Utd will entertain Stoke. For United to win the title they will need to beat Stoke and hope Chelsea are beaten by Wigan. As much as I hope this will happen on Sunday I very much realise that it’s unlikely. No office to Wigan but it would be some double to beat Chelsea at home and away. With that in mind then I’m fully expecting to see Chelsea lift the Premier League title for the 3rd time.
Overall it’s been an interesting season punctuated by unexpected losses by the big teams along with the first ever Premier League club going in to administration in Portsmouth. It’s seen some thrilling matches along with big money spending from Man City who, despite all the talk, couldn’t muster a title challenge. It will also be noted that the much touted Liverpool, who many pundits tipped for the title, won’t even finish 4th rounding up a thoroughly disappointing season. In my opinion Chelsea will be deserved winners as they’ve pulled out the results when they’ve needed them and United have failed to capitalise on the slip-ups.
Looking forward to next season I’ll be interested to see what Sir Alex and other managers do during the summer with the shop window that is the World Cup going on. I wouldn’t be surprised if United sell a couple well-known players and bring in some more. Many will say Berbatov will be on his way but I really hope he isn’t as I really do rate him and would prefer to keep him. Nani has also finally showed some promise so I hope we keep hold of him as well. In the end I could see us shoring up the defence again as with Ferdinand and Vidic missing many games this season it highlighted our lack of decent cover in this area. I also wonder who will be the flop purchase as quite often a player will have a blinder of a World Cup, be signed by a Premier League team and proceed to under-perform on a regular basis. Either I think next season will be more compelling and more exciting than this season. So roll on August already!
