No Games, Just Sports
So recently I started running again after about 11 months. While I’ve been regularly playing football every week I mostly play in goal and figured I need something else to keep fit and help lose weight. I was especially inspired by this video that I saw on YouTube and while I may not run a marathon in a year it has given me impetus to lose weight. Now I know I’m not hugely overweight and I ignore BMI as it’s epically pointless but my body fat percentage is high somewhere in the 30s if I remember what the personal trainer at Esporta said! So yeah, I need to do something and just football ain’t going to cut it.
So as I said I started running again last week but I feel I may have been slightly over eager, I ran 19 miles in 3 days. I ran six Tuesday and Wednesday and, to prove to myself it wasn’t a double fluke, ran 7 miles on Thursday. The upshot of this is that my left knee, the considerably weaker one, has complained all weekend and is still painful now. I’m hoping it’ll get through football and then on Tuesday I’ll see if I can speak to someone at Esporta about what I can do to strengthen up the knee. One thing last week proved to me though is that I’m not as unfit as I think I am. Sure I’m overweight but not just anyone could get up on a morning 3 days in a row and run 6 miles.
So there positives and negatives from my new-found desire to get fit and lose weight. However I’m determined not to let the negatives win out this time and just work with and then past them. I’m not doing this because I’ve been told to or feel pressure to I’m doing it because I want to and was inspired to do so by seeing it’s possible. So wish me luck everyone it’s going to be a tough journey.
