Taking on Fitz & Cystic Fibrosis
Those of you who know me well will know that over the past year I’ve really gotten in to my cycling having completed many rides & sportives in 2012. One of the things I immediately looked for when we moved to Canberra was for something similar. With that in mind I joined Pedal Power, an ACT cycling club who also organise many weekend rides and such like. However, up until now I’ve not been on any as my weekends are mostly taken up with playing and supporting my footie team Lanyon Utd. The season is now coming to a close and with that comes the need to fill the gaps and have something to keep the fitness up over the close season. Come October there’ll be two things doing that; one will be finding a cricket club and the other will be Fitz’s Challenge. The latter also gave me the opportunity to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) ACT to sort of join in with my brother’s fundraising back home.
Through my brother I got to know someone who suffers from CF and know what effect it has and how important the treatments now available are. Had I not moved to Australia this year I would’ve been out there helping out in any way I could to raise funds for CF. Finding an opportunity to fundraise here in Australia was really important and I figured a 165km (100 mile) cycle ride was a great way to do this. So here’s where I plug two fundraising pages, one for my brother who’s doing 12 events in 2012 and mine for Fitz’s. Any donations large or small would be awesome and really appreciated. CF is a disease that can be beaten but also better managed for those who suffer from it. So if you can dig deep and donate what you can as it all makes a difference.
